Tzu Chi Medical Annual Conference: Experts Gather to Advance Technology and Management
The 7th Tzu Chi Medical Annual Conference was held over two days at Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, bringing together medical professionals from all eight Tzu Chi hospital branches along with experts from other healthcare institutions. More than 600 medical staff participated in over 150 academic presentations, exchanging knowledge not only on medical techniques but also on humanistic healthcare practices. While advancing medical technology, the conference emphasized the continuation of compassion and warmth in patient care.
During the conference, this year's Tzu Chi Medical Model Awards were presented. Dr. Chang, Chien-Chun, Director of the Minimally Invasive Spine and Joint Center at Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, shared: "Through computer-assisted navigation systems, we can perform various complex procedures ranging from minimally invasive to challenging spine surgeries, including revisions and corrections."
The conference featured diverse and in-depth discussions, with participation from both Tzu Chi healthcare system professionals and external experts. Dr. Lee Wei-Chieh, Professor at Lo-Hsu Foundation Bo-Ai Hospital's Weight Management Center, noted: "This forum provides fresh inspiration for physicians through valuable knowledge exchange, ultimately benefiting patients."
Tzu Chi Medical Mission CEO Dr. Lin Chun-Lung emphasized: "Professionally, we must remain at the forefront of medical advancement. Our teams work diligently to incorporate cutting-edge technologies." In the post-pandemic era, while precision medicine and AI healthcare evolve rapidly, Tzu Chi's core medical values become even more precious.
Tzu Chi Foundation Deputy CEO Lin Ching-Hsien stated: "Most importantly, we aim to perpetuate compassionate healthcare through mentorship, establishing our professional medical services as a global paradigm."
The conference's Most Beautiful Medical Humanity Award was presented to Dr. Hsieh Cheng-Yu from Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital's ENT Department, who documented his mentorship under late professor Dr. Wu Hung-Pin, Taiwan's cochlear implant pioneer who passed away in early October. Dr. Hsieh emotionally shared: "I miss my teacher deeply. I will work hard to fulfill your expectations and become a student you'd be proud of."
Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital Superintendent Dr. Chien Shou-Hsin reflected: "The musical notes adorning our lobby walls represent the Tzu Chi Foundation anthem - 'Running through long streets and narrow alleys, providing medicine, care and sustenance.' This embodies our essential medical legacy and core values."
The two-day conference served not only as a platform for technical exchange but also reinforced healthcare professionals' shared commitment to their original calling in medicine.
